Repeating Events (2019 & 2020)

When informed of the “Initial Event” n 2918 the School District agreed to paint the curb on the West side of Olive Road from the High School entrance to the WRC parking lot and install a few no parking signs on the East side of Olive Road. The county also agreed to install a few no parking signs around the cul-desac circle. These two necessary but not sufficient actions changed the dynamics of the problem.

So, in the following years parking starved WRC patrons admerably no longer park in the West side clearly marked fire lane, they continue to park under the no parking signs on the East side of Olive Road. Why is this not acceptable? Because the East side of Olive Road is reserved for vehicles that need to pull over to get out of the way of on comming first responder vehicles behind them when they are traveling in the fire lane. There is no right West side sholder on OIiuve Road. So, when vehicles are parked on the East side of Olive Road, traveling vehicles are forced to stay in the fire lane and impead the swift and safe progress of first responder vehicles.

As the graphic picture below shows, a vehicle on Olive road that has pulled over and fire trucks have proceeded beyond it. But the fire trucks are now stuck behind several other vehicles that cannot pull over because of vehicles having been parked in a dedicated no parking area. So, now all vehicles in the fire lane must slowly proceed into the unmarked de-facto fire lane in the chaotic parking lot where drivers are backing out of spaces to escape and patrons are running to their vehicles while the alarm is sounding.
